There are many professionals at the university who can provide assistance with questions about academic integrity.
The Office of Academic Integrity (OAI) adjudicates cases that occur across the University, with the exception of the Washington College of Law. Faculty needing to discuss or report an academic integrity concern should contact academicintegrity@american.edu.
The OAI can also offer guidance and advice for promoting academic integrity. The Academic Integrity Sharepoint site for faculty has information from workshops and presentations, recent news, and general resources.
The Center for Teaching, Research and Learning can provide assistance with academic integrity questions related to course design, and syllabus and assignment language. The OAI works with unit leaders to provide faculty support as well.Ìý
Students with questions about what constitutes academic dishonesty should start by asking their course instructor for guidance, as they are the best resources for academic integrity questions/issues related to their curriculum. The staff of the Writing Center, the Academic Support and Access Center, and the University Library include experts who can help teach how to avoid plagiarism.
