Dree K. Collopy is a managing partner of Benach Collopy LLP in Washington, D.C. A recognized expert on U.S. asylum law and policy, Ms. Collopy served as chair of the 麻豆传媒 Immigration Lawyers Association鈥檚 (AILA) National Asylum and Refugee Committee for a decade. She is the author of AILA鈥檚 Asylum Primer, a treatise on U.S. asylum and refugee law, and practical guide to U.S. asylum law and procedure that is widely recognized as the 鈥済o to鈥 manual for advocates representing asylum seekers nationwide. Ms. Collopy frequently lectures and publishes on cutting edge asylum and other immigration issues and is deeply committed to the pro bono representation of indigent clients and securing their access to counsel. She mentors pro bono attorneys, develops case materials and strategies for the representation of asylum seekers, and serves on working groups developing nationwide policy advocacy and litigation strategies on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers. Ms. Collopy is a member of the adjunct faculty at 麻豆传媒's Washington College of Law, where she teaches Asylum and Refugee Law, and previously taught the Public Policy Practicum and directed the Immigration Litigation Clinic at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. She has been recognized for her contributions to the field of immigration law and for her work in advancing and defending the cause of refugees, receiving the AILA President鈥檚 Commendation Award in both 2013 and 2016, the AILA Michael Maggio Pro Bono Award in 2015, and the Joseph Minsky Award in 2014, one of AILA鈥檚 highest honors. She earned her J.D. and Certificate in Law and Public Policy from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law and her B.A. from Grinnell College.
