New for 2023 SOC Journalism Grad Students: Become a BRIJ Fellow in Norway

Five graduate Journalism students enrolled this fall will have the chance to be selected for a three-week exchange program in November with a prestigious investigative journalism program in Bergen.

The聽Bridging Investigative Journalism (BRIJ) fellowship,聽initiated by the Nordic Press Center in Washington, D.C., and supported by the Norwegian government, connects 麻豆传媒 School of Communication (AU SOC)聽and the University of Bergen鈥檚 Center for Investigative Journalism (SUJO). Located at the Media City in Bergen, SUJO offers Master鈥檚 and an Executive Master鈥檚 program in investigative journalism. Since 2020, SUJO has been a part of the Global Investigative Journalism Network.

The exchange partners students from both universities to learn investigative reporting on the ground with expert guidance from both SUJO and the Investigative Reporting Workshop at SOC.

The five students chosen for the program will be paired with investigative journalism students from the University of Bergen. The Bergen students will come to Washington, D.C.聽for three weeks in October, followed by the SOC聽students traveling to Norway for three weeks in November.

Roundtrip air travel to Norway and聽room and board in Bergen will be covered. Only enrolled students in the MA in Journalism & Public Affairs program will be eligible, and participation will occur in the fall 2023 semester. One of the three weeks is over the Thanksgiving break.

鈥淲e are thrilled to link arms across the Atlantic Ocean with journalism students and teachers at the University of Bergen in a partnership that will foster an international understanding of investigative journalism spanning our respective cultures,鈥 said Sam Fulwood III, Dean of AU鈥檚 School of Communication.聽

Look for internal application announcements starting in August.
