Bio
Jerry retired from the International Monetary Fund in 2015. He last served as Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Department at the Fund, where he led the institution's work on India, Korea, Myanmar, Singapore and Japan. He served in a number of other positions at the Fund, including as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Managing Director during the Global Financial Crisis, and as a Division Chief in the European Department, where he led the Fund’s work on several Eastern European countries.
Jerry has recently spent several semesters as a Visiting Scholar at Tokyo University Graduate School of Public Policy. He has also served as a consultant to the IMF's Institute for Capacity Development, helping to design and teach classes to Asian and European country officials.
Jerry has taught a number of courses in SIS, including masters classes in International Financial Relations and International Trade Relations, and undergraduate courses on The Rise of China, Economic Crises, and Economic Transition in Europe. He is very much enjoying teaching at AU, which is a return to his professional roots—he was an assistant professor at Tulane University 30 years ago.
