Biographical Note

John J. Finan earned his Ph.D. in Latin Â鶹´«Ã½ History from Harvard University in 1956.Finan joined the faculty of Â鶹´«Ã½ School of International Service in 1961. He gained tenure in 1967 and was appointed as a full professor in 1970. He also taught Latin Â鶹´«Ã½ History courses for the History Department.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains John Finan's research, speeches, and writings regarding grain regulation in Mexico. There are notes about collections from the General Municipal Archive of Puebla and photocopies of primary sources from the General Archives of the Indies. Most of Finan's work is unpublished, including an untitled manuscript about grain regulatory systems in Puebla de Los Angeles (1997 - 2002). One exception is his dissertation, Municipal Grain Regulation and Provision in New Spain in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries (1956). Some items in this collection are in Spanish.
