Bio
Dr. Peng specializes in late imperial and modern Chinese art history with a focus on gender issues and globalization of material culture. Before joining the Â鶹´«Ã½ she worked at the National Palace Museum and the Academia Sinica, both in Taiwan, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a pre-doctoral research fellow and received her PhD degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2014. Her book, "Artful Subversion: Empress Dowager Cixi's Image Making," was published by Yale University Press in 2023. Peng has two ongoing book-length projects. One is on the gendered history of women's jeans in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. The other is on the Chinese porcelain industry in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the role it played in shaping modern connoisseurship of Chinese decorative art in Europe and the United States.

Dr. Peng’s courses on Chinese and East Asian art range from Buddhist art of Asia and art and material culture of China to thematic issues on gender in modern East Asian visual culture, contemporary Chinese art and photography in East Asia.
