Bio
Dr. Nicewinter specializes in the art and archaeology of ancient Peru, specifically the north highland Cajamarca culture during the Middle Horizon. Her research investigates the way that Cajamarca painted ceramics demonstrate social and cultural interactions throughout the central Andes. She is co-editor of the upcoming volume Body and Being in Precolumbian Art and Environment: Ontological Connections between Place, Material Culture, and Self (University Press of Colorado, 2026).

She is an Associate Professor of Art History at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). At NOVA, she is the Honors Program Faculty Lead and the creator of collegewide NOVA Online asynchronous course templates. Her advocacy for textbook affordability led to a VIVA Open Course Grant in 2022 for the project 鈥淎dapting OERs and Creating Course Materials for the History of Art.鈥 This grant enables Dr. Nicewinter and her colleagues at Brightpoint College to create an OER textbook for the first half of the art history survey.

As the Vice President of the Pre-Columbian Society of Washington DC, Dr. Nicewinter organizes their yearly scholarly symposium. She has chaired and moderated symposia on Gender and Power in the Ancient Andes and The Terminal and Postclassic Maya of Belize.

In her spare time she is a competitive rower and runner.
